Tiffany Reisz launched herself on the world recently, with her sensational novel The Siren. It was mind blowing, eye opening and above all, incredibly well written; an erotic novel that challenges preconceived ideas about both the genre and romantic ideas about BDSM. Although it is not really a book for those that think Fifty Shades of Grey is the best thing since sliced bread. If you haven’t read The Siren yet, please stop reading now, go buy it, read it, and then come back. There will be spoilers... Then came the release of the second book in the series, The Angel. I have to admit, I was a little nervous in reading this one. I’m one of readers who actually loved the ending of The Siren, and thought it was complete (there is some debate about the level of “Happy Ever After” in the ending). I simply couldn’t see how Ms Reisz was going to live up to the incredibly high expectations she had set. Tiffany Reisz did it. The Angel is a fantastic story, although very different in many ways from The Siren, the standard of writing is just wonderful, the characters are completely believable, the plot is original and the sex steamy. For me it didn’t have quite the same intensity as The Siren, as we’d already met the characters and I was now used to both the writing style and the characters’ style, so there wasn’t that mind-blowing factor; more a feeling of being excited to be back on the rollercoaster than discovering the heart in the mouth effect for the first time. The Angel really focuses on Michael, as he finally gets to fulfil his destiny (and desires) to become a submissive, under the training of Nora. Of course, as this is all happening at Griffin’s estate in the country, we get to see a whole lot of the delicious Griffin as well, which I’m sure no one will be upset by. Of course, the two we really want to know more about are Soren and Wes; you won’t be disappointed. Boy, will you not be disappointed. Soren is being investigated by a reporter, which gives us plenty of opportunity to learn more about him, as well as his relationship with Nora. Most interestingly, it also opens up the door to learning about Kingsley, who has got to be one of the most intriguing characters ever written about; just a teaser, but certainly enough to whet the appetite for more. Soren is probably my favourite character (although it would be a hard call between Soren and Kingsley), he has that good heart, no bullshit, almost a bad boy thing that just makes me want to submit, but Wes, who I positively disliked in the first book, really started to come into his own. Again we get to see how truly evil Tiffany Reisz is as an author. She provides twists and developments that are so cleverly worked into the story you can barely see them coming, and Wes is definitely her prize subject for this. I have to admit, after finishing The Angel, I’m actually coming around to Team Wes, just a little mind you, but he’s starting to become a real person in my mind. Or maybe I just now have fantasies about a threesome with Wes, Soren and Nora... that could get awfully interesting. The next book in the series is “The Prince”, which apparently will give us more of Kingsley, but if you haven’t started this series I cannot encourage you enough to race out and buy The Siren and The Angel now. The romance, the sex, the writing; The Original Sinners is fangtastic. |

| The Angel by Tiffany Reisz is a brilliantly written, intense, sexually explicit and emotionally draining experience that is capturing the attention of readers around the world. We’re talking about a multi-layered feast of a book. Firstly it’s a bloody great story! We have well developed characters, a surprising plot and excellent dialogue and description, all wrapped around the BDSM lifestyle. Nora is again the centre around which a fascinating array of characters orbit, from the sexual sadist Søren who loves Nora so completely, Griffin the bisexual playboy, Michael the physically and emotionally abused teenage submissive and Wesley the quintessential boy next door with his ‘vanilla’ lifestyle. As the background, deep emotional scars and psychological drives of each are revealed we come to love each incredibly different character for the courage they show in their personal journeys. Rather than The Original Sinners I think this series could be dubbed “The Soul Stripped Bare’ because while this series is described as BDSM erotica, it is very much more than that. To me it is a deeply philosophical exploration of deepest humanity stripped bare of pretensions and societal mores. It’s just that Tiffany Reisz uses the kink lifestyle (and that bloody great story I mentioned) as the mechanism used to reveal the honesty within. That said, Tiffany Reisz has a much lighter touch in The Angel than in The Siren. The snappy witty dialogue made me snort with laughter The Siren by Tiffany Reiszmany times, while the movement between the three main stories (Suzanna the journalist’s investigation into Søren, Søren and Nora’s past and Griffin and Michael’s love story) often provided relief from the sheer intensity of what these broken, damaged characters have been through. This is very much a love story – and a story I love. It’s been wonderful to observe the exponential popularity of The Siren, book 1 of the Original Sinners series which both challenged and intrigued readers’ perceptions of love. There is no doubt that with Book 2, The Angel, Tiffany Reisz’s standing as an author of merit has been cemented. | ||
